What was the name of this movie?

When I was a little boy in the late 1970s there was a movie that I saw on television - it may have been regular network TV or cable, I don't know - but I have never been able to find the name of it, not even in a Google search. The only thing I remember was that it had short demon type creatures in the basement which were afraid of light. There's a scene where a guy is being pulled down the basement stairs and uses the flash from a camera to blind them as they are attacking him so that he can get away. Does anybody know what movie this is? It would have been made somewhere between 1974 and 1981, and before you say it, no, it wasn't Gremlins which was a motion picture that came out in 1984. This movie I'm trying to find was a made for TV movie.
