How do you land NORDO at a controlled airport?

I could hear but could not transmit In Honolulu at night. Generator failure. Entered traffic patttern and circled in the down wind leg. Tower asked for a landing light if we could hear. I flashed the light when pointed tower the tower. They then cleard me to land by radio
